On the positive side, a new convertible version debuts this year. Fitted with a power-operated top, the Camaro convertible is offered in the same V6 and V8 configurations as the coupe. GM says it wanted to keep the convertible's performance high, so rather than soften the suspension, it made many reinforcements to the body structure to keep body flex to a minimum.

If you like its looks, the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro will deliver. And it's not totally one-dimensional. You also get a refined ride, comfortable front seats, ample feature content, a low price and impressive performance out of the deal. But for us, the extensive compromises are just too hard to ignore. If you're looking for the most compelling muscle car to drive, our pick is the 2011 Ford Mustang. And if you're looking for the most personable and livable muscle car, that's the 2011 Dodge Challenger.

The 2011 Chevy Camaro is a four-seat coupe or convertible available in V6-powered LS (coupe only), 1LT and 2LT trim levels, and V8-powered 1SS and 2SS trim levels.

Standard equipment on the LS includes black 18-inch steel wheels, automatic headlights, cruise control, keyless entry, air-conditioning, four-way manual front seats with power recline, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, OnStar and a six-speaker stereo with CD player, auxiliary audio jack and satellite radio. The 1LT adds 18-inch alloy wheels, foglamps and eight-way power seats. The Convenience and Connectivity package adds to the 1LT rear park assist, remote ignition (automatic only), Bluetooth, an iPod interface and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The 2LT includes those items plus 19-inch alloy wheels, heated mirrors (driver-side auto-dimming), extra gauges, a head-up display, heated front seats, leather upholstery, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a nine-speaker Boston Acoustics stereo (available separately on 1LT).

The 1SS is equipped similarly to the 1LT but adds a V8, 20-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, a rear lip spoiler and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The 2SS essentially features the 1SS's performance bits with the 2LT's convenience and luxury features.

The RS package (available on all trims but the LS) adds 20-inch wheels, xenon headlights and a unique taillight design. A sunroof is optional on all coupes but the LS, while a variety of exterior stripes and trim items are available across the board.

In addition to a soft top that powers down in about 20 seconds, all convertible versions also come standard with rear park assist.

The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro LS and LT come with a 3.6-liter V6 good for 312 hp and 278 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional. In our performance testing of last year's slightly less powerful model, a manual V6 went from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 17 mpg city/28 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined with the manual, and 18/29/22 mpg with the automatic.

The Camaro SS gets a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 426 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque with the standard six-speed manual and 400 hp and 410 lb-ft with the six-speed automatic. With the manual, the SS hits 60 mph in 5 seconds. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 16/24/19 with the manual, and despite featuring cylinder-deactivation technology and less power, the automatic achieves only a slight 1 mpg improvement on the highway.

Every 2011 Chevy Camaro comes standard with antilock disc brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and OnStar. In brake testing, both Camaro V6 and V8 coupes with 20-inch wheels came to a stop from 60 mph in an excellent 111 feet.

The Camaro coupe has not been rated using the government's new, more strenuous 2011 crash-testing procedures. However, the coupe's 2010 ratings (which aren't comparable to the new methodology) were four out of five stars for frontal crash protection (driver and passenger) and five stars for front-occupant side protection. The convertible has not yet been tested.

Whether you choose the rapid V6 or tire-shredding V8, no one will ever accuse your 2011 Chevrolet Camaro of being slow. The Camaro also displays impressive amounts of grip, communicative steering and a refined suspension that make it exponentially more talented around corners than any Camaro that came before it.

We just wish the experience were less like driving a really agile tank, as the Camaro's poor outward visibility makes it hard to get a real feel for the car's dimensions when cornering. Around town and on the highway, the Camaro is actually quite civil, with a comfortable ride and minimal wind and road noise.

In our test drive of the Camaro Convertible SS, we noted that the car's weight is impossible to ignore. In spite of a beautiful onrush of low-end torque, the V8 is always working hard. Nevertheless, a car with this much mass has no right to be going as quick as the Camaro. Likewise, the big Brembo brakes need everything they've got to stop the SS. The Camaro Convertible SS lumbers around corners with a kind of casual expertise and unconcern, weight and all, thanks to the standard performance suspension and limited-slip differential. That same suspension setup makes the Camaro ride old-school firm. And as mentioned earlier, the interior is a noisy place, top up or down. All that said, the Camaro SS Convertible is surprisingly easy to drive. Each of the weight issues is well compensated for with smart engineering or V8 guts. The car comes by its muscles honestly.

Convertible topVanity is the only reason not to love a convertible, but that's why they invented hats and SPF 30. The Chevy Camaro Convertible's top has a single center latch, released by hand. A single button does the rest of the work, power-folding the canvas top into the trunk while limiting the usable space, but not quite as much as in the Mustang convertible.6.2-liter V8 engineThis is how you win muscle-car, pony-car and NASCAR wars: Big Power. The 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible SS brings it big, with 426 horsepower and 420 lb.-ft. of torquey V8 acceleration. The roaring V8 soundscape is just an invigorating bonus.

The Camaro convertible's inside story is a mixed bag of nuts. For the driver, the leather-trimmed front seat is a comfortable and supportive enough pilot's chair, but the front passenger has to deal with a glove box that bulges irritatingly into the poor rider's knees and makes entry and exit a challenge too. Rear seat room? Don't bother–this is a two-seater with rear seats that should probably never be used to carry adults, which is more than okay because the 2011 Chevy Camaro Convertible is a legit sports car, not a glorified taxi. The pleasure and convenience features, like the Boston Acoustics audio system and OnStar information systems are excellent (and standard on both the LT and SS models), but too many of the other gauges, knobs and buttons are ill-placed and non-intuitive.

We didn't entirely get the 2011 Chevy Camaro Convertible when it made its debut in L.A., but when we saw it in public, on the road, we got it. In traffic, it stands out without screaming. The additional Camaro SS bodywork that adorned our test car–including the SS-specific front end and rear treatments, rear deck spoiler, plus 20-inch wheels–kicks the 2011 Camaro Convertible up a full measure in that all-important category: presence. This is true top up or down, although top down is, of course, our preference.

Full credit to Chevy: There's nothing all that base about the base LT Camaro Convertible's interior. From the 8-speaker Boston Acoustics sound system to the tilt/telescoping steering wheel, the standard equipment list is substantial and competes pretty well with the up-scaled SS version. Other standard highlights include power front sports seat (power-recline for the passenger), power windows with express up/down in front, a head-up display, two power outlets, and fog lamps at every trim level.

Getting a V6 LT Camaro Convertible up to ultimate V8 SS levels is relatively easy if you know how to pick options. While you can't get the powerhouse Camaro Convertible's V8 engine, performance suspension or quick-launch rear axle, you can opt up to the SS's limited-slip differential and 20-inch wheels and tires.

A new generation of Chevrolet Camaro SS was officially unveiled at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. The 2008 Detroit International Auto Show witnessed the official debut of the 2009 Chevrolet Camaro.

Chevrolet is the auto equivalent of a gene-boosted steroid-pumped feline. The ferocious cat was groomed by Swiss born racing driver Louis Chevrolet and business whiz Buick resurrector and former GM head William Durant, as a joint venture that started in 1910. Shortly after Durant was forced out of GM, he partnered with Chevrolet, whom he had previously employed at his Buick racing team, to regain the popularity he had lost.

The Chevy headquarters was set in Detroit and the newly formed brand was baptized, receiving its famous "bowtie" logo in 1913. There are several hypotheses as to how the logo design came to be, two of them being the closest to unanimous acceptance. One of the theories hints at the logo having been designed after a poster Durant had seen in a French hotel while the second claims the "bowtie" is actually a stylized representation of the Swiss flag cross.

No matter how it originated, the golden Chevy logo persisted. In fact, the brand grew at such a fast pace that it allowed Durant to regain ownership of GM in 1916. After having become wealthy enough, Durant bought a smashing 54.5 percent of GM's shares, reinstating himself as head of the auto empire.

Soon after the takeover, Chevrolet was absorbed into GM, becoming a separate division. Having gained even more strength after the merger, the newly formed entity was quick in starting off production and launched the model D in 1918. The V8 35 hp engines fitted on these cars were replaced by smaller 6 cylinder ones, that proved particularly successful on commercial vehicles. The engine gained reputation due to its high durability and earned the "cast iron wonder" nickname.

Only a few years later, Chevy revealed the SUV in its archaic form: the Suburban Carryall. Sporting rough terrain riding capabilities, seating for 8 and weighing around 1½ tons, it marked the beginning of Chevy's future SUV line-up.

The American producer continued its successful innovations streak by introducing the Powerglide transmission in 1950, becoming the first low-price competitor to equip its vehicles with automatic shifting. Shortly after the introduction of the fully automatic transmission, the legendary Corvette was born.

The Vette had such a good reception that it remained the longest running Chevy model in the brand's history, having also been the first American sports car to enter mass production. The Vette also premiered the usage of lightweight construction materials for the car's body, like plastic, at that time.

Following the acclaim garnered by the Vette's release, Chevy launched several other models, including the flashy Impala and the short lived air-cooled Corvair. During the 60's, Chevy reached its sales peak with 3 cars out of any 10 sold in the US. However, before such a performance was achieved, Chevy designed a new small-block V8 engine used to equip its '55 truck range.

This particular engine made it till today, going through plenty of modifications in the process ranging from lightweight, durable aluminum construction to ECU managed control and modern fuel injection for better dosage and increased power.

Although Chevy has been registering lower sales in the past few years due to uncontrolled brand extension, some of the "bowtie" emblazoned automobiles have become either cult classics or vintage collectibles, four wheeled icons as reminders of a past age of glory.

SS.2.RS Race Car

When I was checking out the car I thought no way would the wife let me get it. Get to test driving the car (v8 Manual) wife refused to drive it saying she was intemidated... After we get it home she took it out and now 2 months later 1500 of our first 2000 miles are from my wife cruising around to work etc. This car is a race car in build. If your seeking maximum comfort or the best gas mileage get a Caddy or a Prius. If you want a car and like many others have said that gets you comments and looks everywhere you go. Feels and drives like a race car. Makes you feel like 1 million bucks. This is your car. Its fun, fast, and sexy. You wont go wrong here!

Best car you can buy for the $ $

I have had my 2011 Camaro LS for 3 months now and it truly is an amazing car! General Motors has stepped up there game when it comes to quality and value so far I have not had one problem with this car mechanically. The 312hp 3.6L V6 runs very smooth and when you open up the throttle this baby moves fast! The 6 speed auto seems to be a good match for this car it has 2 modes drive and sport and when you really want to push it id recommend sport mode you can feel the differences. The exterior design speaks for it self awesome! I see people complaining about the interior and visibility you got to remember this was a concept car and i'm glad they didn't mess with the overall design too much!

Very Nice Ride!!!

I own a 2011 SLT Coupe and this car handles brilliantly. I have owned camaros in the past but nothing this fun and easy to drive. I really like that mine is manual trans. cause it really feels like your in control of all that power even though it is a V-6. Every where I go I got people shouting out at me nice ride and people turning heads and asking questions about my car. I like the body style the and for a smaller car that has low head room it actually decieves you by looking at it because when your behind the wheel there is a lot of room. The suspension is awesome it takes curves very well and has all the features you need to enjoy your drive. Good buy and excellent gas mileage.

2SS/RS White-Black Leather

I tried to get her to make a house wife /mother sensible decision but after driving SUVs for 13 years she wouldn't settle for it. We have only had it a couple days and got nailed by a rock on the freeway after the first 50 miles and chipped the windshield. Hopefully that will be the official "break in". We got white because of what I have read about the soft paint and figured we can fill the chips with wax or touchup will be easier. Car feels great-If you are intimidated about the visibility at first you get use to it after the first day. Looking forward to opening it up but am being nice to the motor for the break in. Hopefully it will be reliable. Car is BEAUTIFUL/DREAM CAR!!!

2015 Chevrolet Camaro

"I think my wife loves it more than me!!"

I have owned cars from all four previous generations of what we used to call "F-bodies", a '69 Pace Car, a '79 Firebird Formula, a '90 TramsAm, and a 2002 SS. I bought this 2015 one as a left-over in Feb. 2016 with 2000 miles on it to replace the wife's 2002 T-bird with a blown motor. She loves the way it looks, the way it handles, and the unexpected power of the V6. She's see almost 20mpg around town, and is very very pleased. Happy wife, happy life. Her only disappointment is that I am about to get a V8 convertible version next summer.

"My favorite car so far"

I have a 2SS with the 1LE track package. It's the best car I've ever owned by far. I plan on buying another one when this one gets too many miles on it.

2013 Chevrolet Camaro

"I love the look and the speed but it has faults"

If you want a sports car feel for a reasonably affordable price this is as close as you'll find. The speed is great ! The style is great. I dont think the trim is high quality. I have a 2013 and the moldings are rotting out and the painted on symbols are all rubbing off the windows and door locks. Also a huge issue is the radio and electrical system attached to it goes out on many of these vehicles. Do your research!!! It's a fun fast car but for me, it's short term plaything.
